Summary
Memorial erected by the city of La Roche.
Marie Adrien Perk, born in 1834 in Delft, was a pastor in Dordrecht and Breda in the Netherlands. In 1882, he wrote the first tourist guide to the Ardennes in Dutch. This eminent literary figure had a fervent admiration for La Roche and set himself the goal of making our town and its natural beauty better known.
Jaak Perk, his son, was a poet who also spent many periods in La Roche and wrote poems dedicated to our town.
His best-known work is ‘Ode à Mathilde’. Sadly, he died very young.
It is partly thanks to them that our city receives so many Dutch visitors.
